Tomball German Christmas Market returns Dec. 9-11

The Tomball German Christmas Market returns this weekend, just in time for the holidays.

Organizers report that about “160 unique and interesting street vendors will line Market and South Walnut streets, selling German heritage items, arts and crafts, and much more.”

There will be three stage of live music and an open-air market along with antique shops in Tomball’s old town area.

The market will be open 6-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10; and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.

Saturday’s schedule includes a parade at 11 a.m. along with a “tapping of the keg” ceremony. During the events, exchange students from Germany and their Tomball host families will highlighted.

The Tomball German Christmas Market is held twice a year, located on the old downtown streets of Tomball near 201 S. Elm St., Main Street and Market Street.

Organizers claim the market “is the area’s largest festival celebrating the heritage of the original German families that settled this area beginning in 1840.”

Among the offerings are music; contests; ethnic and festival food, beer and wine; street vendors; all kinds of German souvenirs and clothing, arts, crafts and antiques; Heritage Center; carnival; pony ride and petting zoo; strolling music makers and street performers; and more. Attendees may visit the “Weihnachtshaus” inside the Community Center at 221 Market St. at the corner of Cherry Street which will be filled with German clothes and souvenirs for sale.

Admission, parking and shuttle are free. A free shuttle is provided 10 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Sunday.
