Hanoi, (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries last weekend by the Vietnam News Agency.

-President
Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Seoul on
December 4 afternoon (local time), beginning a state visit to the Republic of
Korea (RoK).

arrival in Seoul on December 4, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a series of
meetings with organisations which have made significant contributions to the
Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) friendship, economic-cultural cooperation, and
people-to-people exchanges.

Hosting a representative of the Ly family in the
RoK, the President affirmed that the Vietnamese State and people are happy
about and proud of the family’s success as well as contributions to both

–Trade between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) has witnessed a strong growth over the past time, with tremendous room noticed for future development of the ties. President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s ongoing visit to the East Asian nation from December 4-6 is expected to open a new phase in countries’ relations, bringing bilateral cooperation to a new height.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992, the bilateral trade turnover has increased by 162 times, from 480 million USD in 1992 to 78 billion USD in 2021. The value is projected to hit 90 billion USD this year and exceed 100 billion USD in 2023.

The RoK is Vietnam’s third biggest trade partner, while Vietnam is the RoK’s largest trade partner in ASEAN.Read full story

Vietnamese legislature arrived at Auckland International Airport in the late
afternoon of December 3 (local time), beginning their official visit to New
Zealand at the invitation of Speaker of the House of Representatives Adrian

Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue received leaders of New Zealand companies
in Auckland on December 4 as part of his ongoing official visit to the country.

Hosting Mike Cronin, Managing Director of
Co-operative Affairs at Fonterra, Hue lauded the group’s joint works with
Vietnamese firms such as Vinamilk and Nutifood in the supply and distribution

-With its
potential, advantages and opportunities, the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu
would promote green, rapid, sustainable socio-economic development, especially
high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, trade, services and tourism, Prime
Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at a working session with local leaders on
December 4.

To grow green, rapidly and sustainably, Bac Lieu should maximise its internal resources, step up infrastructure development, push ahead with decentralisation, and pay more attention to the planning work, he said.Read full story

-Prime Minister
Pham Minh Chinh urged domestic innovative startups to work harder to become
“unicorns” of the region and the world while addressing the key ceremony of the
National Innovative Entrepreneurship Day 2022 (Techfest Vietnam 2022) in the
southern province of Binh Duong on December 3.

The Party and the State always advocate stepping
up the growth model based on scientific-technological applications and
innovations in order to raise productivity, quality and competitiveness of the
national economy, he stressed, referring to a range of relevant policies and
guidelines adopted by the Party and the State as well as projects launched by
the Government, ministries, agencies and localities in support of startups.

-Vietnam and
Venezuela have favourable conditions to bolster cooperation in fisheries,
Vietnamese Ambassador Le Viet Duyen said while addressing a recent forum.

The ambassador’s attendance at the fishery forum
and his recent working visit to Maracaibo city in Zulia state were intended to
promote trade ties between Vietnam and Venezuela.Read full story

Vietnam-Japan trade promotion conference took place in Maebashi city, capital
of Japan’s Gunma prefecture, on December 3, gathering nearly 60 firms from both
nations.

Addressing the event, Ryu Yamamoto, mayor of the
city, pledged favourable conditions for Vietnamese firms investing and doing

International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has
proposed a total investment of 320 million USD in three Vietnamese banks,
reported the Nikkei Asia.

The banks are the Saigon-Hanoi Commercial Joint
Stock Bank (SHB), Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB), and

Chi Minh City Friendship Dialogue (FD HCMC), themed “Resilience Adaptation for
Recovery and Development”, was held on December 3 with the participation of
over 20 foreign delegations from localities worldwide. 

The event aims to promote the friendship and
cooperation between HCM City and foreign localities as well as popularise the

Committees of northern Vinh Phuc province and Tam Dao district held a ceremony
on December 2 to announce the award honouring Tam Dao as the world’s leading
town destination in 2022.

The title was previously announced at the 29th
